The EtherCAT I/O module network forms a unified system that provides flexible and efficient data transfer in industrial automation. The system consists of the following main units:

arrow Peripheral Coupling Unit (EPU) – the central unit of the system
arrow Input modules – for receiving data
arrow Output modules – for transmitting signals
arrow Intelligent modules – for advanced/special functions

EtherCAT Peripheral Coupling Unit (EPU)

The EPU is the “locomotive” of the EtherCAT I/O-module-based system, connecting directly to the EtherCAT network via STP cabling. It features two Ethernet (RJ45) connectors—one input and one output port—allowing devices to be daisy-chained using STP cables.

arrow Indicate readiness via two relay outputs (Machine-On1, Machine-On2)
